www.facebook.com/#!/JulielenceWhere are you from? Coyote, Colorado
Tell us a bit about Luck of the Draw: Wooded Acres is my home. I was born and raised there. Currently, I run the ranch alongside my older brother, Lucas. Most folks describe me as a hard-hearted sonofabitch. I won’t argue that. I am, but there’s a reason for that. Years ago, three women I loved and trusted stomped on my heart and abandoned me. Since then, I have little use for females, except the doves at Sam’s saloon. Which is where I met Paige. She isn’t a soiled dove. She’s a liar and a cheat, and she’s living at Wooded Acres against my will, beating me at every turn. Claims she has amnesia and can’t remember who she is. But I know her real story. She’s here to steal my family’s wealth. Lucas doesn’t think so. Neither does Pa. And Bear―my ranch hand and best friend―has his doubts, too. He insists the only way to prove Paige’s innocence is to find her father. He’s probably right, but I can’t search for the old man now. Everyone at the ranch has left for round-up, except me. Pa’s ordered me to stay behind and watch over Paige. I ain’t happy being cooped up with her, until I realize this is the perfect opportunity for her to steal. But then, an accident by my own hand changes everything, leads me to discover I’m to blame for her amnesia. Worse, the little minx has wormed her way past my barriers. Think I’ll take the truth about her amnesia to the grave. It’s the only way to keep her from leaving me.
What did you think the 1st time you saw Paige? I didn’t bother with Paige when I first saw her, except to wonder why she wore a heavy coat inside a warm saloon. It was the old timer she was with who caught my attention. Something about him rubbed me the wrong way. When he offered Paige (his daughter) as his ante in a winner-take-all hand of stud, my first reaction was anger. What kind of man offers his daughter as ante? Especially one as young as Paige? My second reaction was to let the hand play out. There was a reason the old timer offered up Paige. My gut was telling me he didn’t expect to lose, that he was running a scam. But then, I won. He was stunned and Paige was loathe to leave the table with me. She did, and once I got her alone, she confessed the complete nature of her pa’s deceit. ‘Course, it took a little persuasion on my part to get her to talk. Threats didn’t work with her, but a kiss did.
What was your second thought after seeing Paige? That I was an idiot for kissing her. And dwelling upon how soft she felt in my arms.
Did you feel it was love at first sight? Hell, no! I have no use for females, especially pretty ones like Paige. Females can’t be trusted. They’re evil, and rip out a man’s heart without shedding a tear. I vowed long ago to never love another one.
What do you like most about Paige? Her sass and her strength. She doesn’t cringe beneath my glare and she doesn’t cry when one of my antics bests her. She stands up to me and strikes back with one of her own tricks. Lost a good pair of boots because of her retaliation. Lost more than that the night she brought me the laudanum. She didn’t have to take care of me, but she did. Rather liked the way her chocolate eyes melted with concern for me.
How would you describe Paige? She’s smart, cunning, and determined. She’s also a good cook… and fearful. Wonder why that is?
How would Paige describe you? Overbearing. Demanding. Condescending. Temperamental. Irritable. Loud. And that’s on a good day.
What is your biggest fear? Paige leaving me.
How do you relax: In the past, over a game of stud at Sam’s saloon. Now I prefer a picnic with Paige.
What is your favorite fictional character? I don’t have time to read. I have a ranch to run, and a woman to tame.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
To help Paige instead of letting the sheriff lock in her a jail cell. She’s the only woman who hasn’t tried to change me. The only woman who’s loved and accepted me for who I am.
